What is Peppol, in plain terms

Peppol is a Europe-wide network and set of standards for exchanging e-invoices and other business documents electronically. It isn't a piece of software you install: it's an agreed way for different systems to talk to each other, so a company in Sweden can send a compliant invoice to a buyer in Belgium without either side worrying about formats.

Every business connects to Peppol through an access point, either by becoming one itself or, more commonly, through a certified provider like Inexchange.

Frequently asked questions about Peppol

It depends on your country and who you're invoicing. It's already required for most public-sector (B2G) invoicing across Europe, and a growing number of countries are extending it to B2B. Check your country status here.

It's the address that identifies your business on the Peppol network, similar to an email address for e-invoices. Inexchange sets this up for you.

Not directly, that's a Peppol network rule, not an Inexchange limitation. Inexchange's dispute service gives you a way to flag and correct issues without a straight rejection.

Nothing immediately, unless a mandate or a specific customer requires it, but you may find some customers or public-sector buyers can no longer send or receive invoices with you.

No. You keep creating invoices however you already do, whether that's in your ERP, as a PDF, or directly in the Inexchange portal. Inexchange converts them into the Peppol format automatically.
